SCHEELS EXPERTS & THEIR STORIES
The journey for every SCHEELS Expert is different in ways of how they end up following their passion. From high school to college sports, these associates tell their stories that lead them to where they are now and how they get to share their passions with people everyday; including one of whom now gets to pass on his knowledge of the game to his son.
LUKE SABERS | BASEBALL EXPERT – OVERLAND PARK
I grew up in a small town in Iowa, and started playing baseball as soon as I could walk. I played throughout high school, and was fortunate enough to move on to play Division I ball at the University of Northern Iowa. My time at UNI enhanced my love of the game, and I was honored to be voted a captain my senior year.
After my playing days were over, I started coaching at Northern Illinois University, and with the Quincy Gems (a prospect league) during the summer. I was lucky enough to coach some amazing players, even some with long Major League Baseball careers.
When my wife and I decided to have a family of our own I wanted to have less time on the road, which led to my career at SCHEELS. It was always my dream to coach my own children some day. Now I’m able to coach my son Nic’s baseball team. We have great ballplayers who are best friends on and off the field.
Victories and honors aside, the most gratifying part of coaching is seeing the smiles on my players’ faces during every game and every practice. It allows me to give to the next generation what so many people gave to me while I was playing.
CALEB HILLSHEIM | BASEBALL EXPERT – ROCHESTER
For the past 20 years, baseball consumed my summers. It meant early mornings, long travels to tournaments, and late evenings spent in the cage. The game introduced me to some of my closest friends and taught me amazing life lessons.
Although my baseball playing days came to an end last year, my career with SCHEELS gives me the opportunity to share my passion for baseball with countless young players. I enjoy setting each athlete up for their season in hopes that they will experience the same feeling I had when stepping out on the mound.
SHERI HUGHES | FASTPITCH EXPERT – MANKATO
I played fastpitch at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and earned All MIAC my senior year. I started my career at SCHEELS in 2003 and have been involved in the softball and baseball shops ever since.
When I was in college, there wasn’t any women’s specific gear, but now SCHEELS carries an expanded selection. It’s been 20 years since I played fastpitch, but it is truly amazing to see how far the sport has come.
