2016 Winter Lookbook

It’s the season of chilly weather, hot chocolate and cozy layers. This means putting away the shorts and bringing out scarves and chunky sweaters. We asked our Cold Weather buyers to give us a sneak peek into what we are carrying for the winter season, so you can have the most wanted coats this minute.

Introduction to 2016’s Winter Trends

Kari – Women’s Buyer: “Vests, fleece and sweaters are key items in Women’s Outerwear. Women love to layer to stay warm and fashionable, and we do not see this trend slowing down. We are seeing a huge trend in timeless pieces. Our customer is transitioning from bright jackets to earth tones and classic looks that can be worn on the slopes or street (fashion but function).

What was once old is new again. Patagonia, Columbia and The North Face all have fleece pieces that are very retro. Fleece vests are also starting to reappear into our Winter line.

Columbia has many new styles and trends and has never looked better. We are most excited about Columbia and their product after viewing all our brands.

I would challenge anyone looking at jackets to try on a different color other than black. Earth tones look great on a variety of skin tones and you might surprise yourself.”

Collin – Men’s Buyer: “Styles and trends are very similar to last year. The ‘puffer’ (Thermoball/Nano-puff) style jacket will continue to be trending in 2016 and into the foreseeable future. A classic trend that is continuing to perform well is fleece. Whether it’s bonded fleece or sweater style fleece, both are flying off the shelf.

Deciding which items to stock boils down to paying attention to our local industry and trends we see on the coast (primarily west coast), as these will be the future 3-4 years from now. For the customer, it comes down to personal preference. Buy a coat that compliments your body type. In other words, if you’re cold blooded don’t be afraid to purchase a down jacket or heavier weight jacket. The reverse is also true, if you’re warm blooded don’t be forced into thinking you need a heavier jacket.”
